Citizen Angel was founded in 2015 by three women entrepreneurs in San Francisco: C.J. Hayden, Kariz Matic, and Kristine Carey. These three women shared an enthusiasm for the giving circle model of philanthropy and a passion for supporting the economic empowerment of women and girls. C.J., Kariz, and Kris were previously members of the giving circles A Good Deed Tea and/or the Thriving Women in Business Giving Community. Today, these three women direct the activities of both Citizen Angel and the giving circle A³: Access, Advancement, Autonomy.
C.J. Hayden, Founder & Director
C.J. Hayden has spent much of the last thirty years supporting women and girls in becoming economically self-sufficient. Since 1992, C.J. has been a business coach and productivity mentor to self-employed professionals and creatives. C.J. has served pro bono on boards and committees for numerous organizations, including Women’s Economic Network, Women in Business Mentoring Circles, San Francisco Business & Professional Women, and the San Francisco chapter of the Social Enterprise Alliance. She co-authored The Women’s Giving Circle Guide and is the author of six other books.
Kariz Matic, Secretary
Kariz Matic has spent 20+ years creating systems and technology for companies like Cisco, Nestle, and Genentech. She’s principal of The Matic, and an expert in project management, analytics, and workflow. She has served as an organizer, fundraiser, and advisor for organizations like AIDS/LifeCycle, Days for Girls, Health Technology Fourm, and numerous groups supporting women in technology.
Kristine Carey, Treasurer
Kristine Carey is a reinvention specialist who helps solo entrepreneurs and micro-business owners align who they are with their work. She’s been coaching and catalyzing since 2002 with her business, Moxie, Inc. Kris studied at the Academy for Coaching Excellence and holds the designation Board Certified Coach. She has served as a chapter/area leader for Toastmasters Int’l, Int’l Coach Federation, and Texas A&M Alumni Club.
